Rotary Club of Gold Beach Community Service Projects 2005-2006
Service Above Self Awards
- The Boy Scouts received $100 in honor of John Golay.
- The hospital received $100 for nutrition (Breast Feeding) in honor of Renee’ Brooks.
Student Achievement Awards
- Elementary and High School students were recognized for Student
Achievement Awards. These students received a $50 savings bond to
encourage saving for their future.
Fourth of July
- The Club donated $1000 to the local chamber for fireworks.
Walk for Polio
- The club donated $300 in support of Nathan’s “Walk for Polio”.
Rotary Mentor Program
- Children were being mentored by club members. Participants included
Gunnva, our inbound exchange student, who is mentoring a second grader.
Party at the Park
- Fundraiser to build a new library. Rotary provided the barbeque and
raised approximately $1600.
Bus Stop Repair
- The club rebuilt a bus stop shelter for children in Hunter Creek. Gold
Beach Lumber donated the materials. A Rotary emblem was handcrafted and
added to the structure.
Katrina fund
- Club member Dante Concetto spearheaded a match collection of $500 from
our club members totaling $1000 for RI’s Katrina Fund.
Jerry’s Flat Road Cleanup
- Two times throughout the year our club cleans up trash along the lower
Rogue River. Publicity of this project encourages our community to
keep America clean!
Dictionary Project
- Six Rotarians distributed dictionaries to both third grade classrooms
at Riley Creek Elementary. The children seemed to enjoy the program and
we received many thank you cards. The club also presented the principal
with $200 to purchase a picnic table for the school’s new garden center.
New Clothes Project
- The club provided $500 for new clothes for needy Children.
Rotary and Soroptimist Christmas Party
- A live auction grossed $1056, which was divided between the clubs, and
net proceeds of approximately $600 benefited local causes.
Giving Tree
- The club provided $500 worth of gifts for needy children in the
community.
Riverside Trail
- Our club continues to build a Riverside Trail along the lower Rogue
River. The club obtained a $33,000 grant to provide a specialized
bridge to meet ODOT standards. Points of interest signs will be added
to educate and entertain the public.
High on Health
- Every April, our club, raises over $10,000, in partnership with the
Gold Beach Health Foundation. This event includes both, a silent and
live auction of items donated by the community as well as entertainment
to make the event memorable. This year’s event raised a record-setting
amount—totaling $23,000 for the two organizations.
4-Way Test Speech Contest
- Two students participated in our first 4-Way Test Speech Contest,
including the winner, our own Gunnva!
RYLA
- The club sent Jill Owen, a Gold Beach High School student, to Rotary
Youth Leadership Academy Camp. She is scheduled to tell us about her
experience on July 5.
Scholarships
- The club provided $2000 in scholarships to local students. The three
recipients were Will Price, Felicia Knox and Matt Manzella.
Coos Curry Electric Barbeque
- The Rotary Club partnered with the Fairgrounds to provide the barbeque
for the hundreds who attended Coos Curry Electric’s Annual Meeting last
Saturday in Gold Beach.
